A. Learning Objectives (Tujuan Pembelajaran)

Setelah mengikuti pembelajaran ini, peserta diharapkan mampu:

B. Materi 1 — Pronouns (Kata Ganti)

1. What Are Pronouns?

Pronouns adalah kata ganti yang digunakan untuk menggantikan kata benda (noun) atau frasa kata benda agar kalimat tidak mengulang nama orang, benda, atau hal yang sama secara terus-menerus.

Perhatikan contoh berikut.

WITHOUT PRONOUNS

Maria is a caregiver. Maria helps an elderly woman. Maria works every day.

Maria adalah seorang pendamping lansia. Maria membantu seorang perempuan lanjut usia. Maria bekerja setiap hari.

WITH PRONOUNS

Maria is a caregiver. She helps an elderly woman. She works every day.

Maria adalah seorang pendamping lansia. Dia membantu seorang perempuan lanjut usia. Dia bekerja setiap hari.

Pada contoh kedua, kata she menggantikan nama Maria. Kalimat menjadi lebih alami dan tidak berulang-ulang.

Dalam dunia kerja, pronouns penting untuk memperkenalkan diri, menyebut orang lain, menjelaskan kepemilikan barang, memahami instruksi, serta berkomunikasi dengan majikan, rekan kerja, pasien, atau anggota keluarga yang dilayani.

What Are Pronouns?

Pronouns are words used to replace nouns or noun phrases to avoid repeating the same person, thing, or thing over and over again.

Consider the following example.

WITHOUT PRONOUNS

Maria is a caregiver. Maria helps an elderly woman. Maria works every day.

WITH PRONOUNS

Maria is a caregiver. She helps an elderly woman. She works every day.

In the second example, the word "she" replaces Maria's name. The sentence becomes more natural and less repetitive.

In the workplace, pronouns are important for introducing oneself, referring to others, explaining ownership of items, understanding instructions, and communicating with employers, coworkers, patients, or family members.

2. Types of Pronouns (Jenis-Jenis Kata Ganti)

Materi ini membahas enam jenis kata ganti:

  • That uniform is hers. — Seragam itu miliknya.

You

yours

He

his phone

his

She

hers

It

its handle*

—

We

ours

They

their tools

theirs

*Its lazim digunakan sebagai penentu kepemilikan sebelum kata benda, tetapi tidak memiliki bentuk possessive pronoun mandiri yang lazim digunakan dalam pola ini.

Aturan sederhana:

  • My + noun: This is my bag.

  • Mine tanpa noun setelahnya: This bag is mine.

Contoh lainnya:

  • Is this your uniform? — Apakah ini seragam Anda?

  • Yes, it is mine. — Ya, ini milik saya.

  • That room is theirs. — Kamar itu milik mereka.

  • The blue suitcase is hers. — Koper biru itu miliknya.

3. Workplace Dialogue

O. Penutup — Key Takeaways

Pada akhir pembelajaran, peserta diharapkan memahami bahwa pronouns merupakan bagian dasar yang sangat penting dalam komunikasi bahasa Inggris.

  • Personal pronouns: I, you, he, she, it, we, they.

  • Reflexive pronouns: myself, yourself, himself, herself, dan bentuk lainnya.

  • Possessive pronouns: mine, yours, his, hers, ours, theirs.

  • Demonstrative pronouns: this, that, these, those.

  • Interrogative pronouns: who, whom, whose, what, which.
